Order of Malta Clinic of Northern California

For more than a decade, the Order of Malta Clinic of Northern California has provided free health care to Oakland’s uninsured and underrepresented community. Its patients include the working poor, undocumented immigrants and homeless residents. The nonprofit is powered by a staff of more than 70 volunteer physicians, nurses and administrators – all of whom are committed to caring for those most in need.

Challenge

Communicating the life-saving work of Oakland’s free healthcare clinic.

With 100 percent of its operations funded by the support of donors and foundations, the Clinic needed to improve its communications to better engage and grow its philanthropic network. The leadership team reached out to MacKenzie for help.

Approach

In collaboration with the Clinic’s Board of Directors, we developed new messaging, content and branded assets that humanized the Clinic’s life-saving work and highlighted the organization’s unique mission and dedicated team. We designed and launched a new website with art direction, original photography and a series of staff-focused blog articles. In addition, we expanded the Clinic’s visibility and brand reach, by designing a vehicle wrap for a new mobile unit, and by producing a variety of collateral and print assets, which included a strategic plan, annual reports and donor and media communications. The result: positioning the Clinic to serve even more patients in this critical time of need.
